KUWAIT: Kuwait Times and Kuwait News welcomed 50 students of LOYAC’s KON Program, in collaboration with Babson College, the world’s leading institute for entrepreneurship education on Wednesday. The students aged 12 to 16-year-old were invited to delve into the world of journalism. Content Creator Dhoha Al-Issa guided the visitors through an insightful tour of the Kuwait Times building. During the visit, students had the unique opportunity to gain firsthand experience and insight into the intricate process of publishing a newspaper, from news gathering to final printing.
The tour provided an invaluable educational experience for the students, allowing them to interact with professionals in the field and gain a deeper understanding of the inner workings of journalism. As part of the tour, Reporter Passant Hisham presented the students with the first edition of the Kuwait Times, established in 1961. She guided them through the essential sections of a newspaper, explaining the importance of checking the sources of news stories that are featured.
Hisham introduced them to the editorial section, where opinions and editorials provide commentary on current events and in-depth articles on various topics, teaching the students how every part of a newspaper plays a role in informing and engaging the public. On his part, Digital Creator Yousef Abu Ghazaleh took the students to the Kuwait Times’ archive room, where he offered a glimpse into the historical context and evolution of journalism in Kuwait, enriching the students’ understanding of Kuwait’s cultural and journalistic heritage.
Students were engaged in an interactive video facilitated by Content Creator Zainab Dashti at Kuwait Times’ studio. Students were invited to watch the “Kuwait Times Asks 100 People” to learn how the content creators team work on their projects. At the end, Head of the Printing Department Al-Watheq Bellah Darwish took the students on a tour of the printing press, where he showed them the process of printing and how Kuwait Times’ staff run and maintain the presses, image scanners and other printing machines.
