Zain interns sharpen media chops at Kuwait Times and Kuwait News

With expert guidance, Zain Summer Program students gain hands-on experience

KUWAIT: Kuwait Times and Kuwait News played pivotal roles in the fifth edition of Zain’s Summer Program, providing invaluable media training and experience to the participants. During the program, interns at Kuwait Times, the first English daily in the Arabian Gulf, and Kuwait News, a leading local media institution, engaged in a wide range of activities, from creating news reports and editorial pieces to digital media production.

The nine students collaborated closely with editorial teams, learning about story research, interview techniques and content editing. Additionally, they gained hands-on experience with media equipment, including cameras and audio tools, enhancing their technical skills. “I learned a lot of skills, and lessons and made a lot of friends. This program was one of the most memorable experiences so far. Working with Zain and Kuwait Times/Kuwait News was amazing,” said Esraa Al-Harran, one of the interns.

Throughout the program, Zain monitored the students’ progress through weekly reflection sessions, providing guidance and support to help them excel. Team leaders and supervisors from Zain, Kuwait Times and Kuwait News, including Content Creator Dhoha Al-Issa, were actively involved in mentoring the students, ensuring they gained the most from their internship experience.

“My time at Kuwait Times/Kuwait News has been rewarding and fun. My favorite part was how open the environment was as a whole and all the fun times I had with my fellow interns. I was able to learn new skills and work on projects I’m passionate about,” Jouri Al-Houti said.

The contributions of experts at Kuwait Times and Kuwait News went beyond training; they actively involved the interns in producing content that was published across their print and digital platforms. This exposure allowed students to see their work reach a broad audience, providing them with real-world experience and a deeper understanding of the media industry.

“Participating in Zain’s Summer Program has been a transformative experience. The opportunity to work with an incredible team and publish impactful work has been immensely rewarding. I am grateful for the support and guidance from Faten, Dhoha, Faisal, Hamad and the entire (fun) team, which made this journey truly special,” said Abdullah Al-Mutawa.

In recognition of these efforts, Zain honored Kuwait Times and Kuwait News during a ceremony marking the conclusion of the program at the company’s headquarters in Shuwaikh. The company acknowledged the media outlets for their significant contributions to the program’s success. This partnership was instrumental in equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed in modern journalism and media production. Zain also honored the interns who created the most unique media content at Kuwait Times and Kuwait News.

The Zain Summer Program, part of the company’s Future University Network (FUN) initiative, is designed to develop a variety of skills among young people. Key elements of the program included a ‘Steer Your Career’ workshop in partnership with INJAZ Kuwait, covering essential career skills such as leadership, communication, time management and public speaking.

“Working at Kuwait Times/Kuwait News was such an amazing experience. I was able to gain so many skills and had an amazing opportunity to meet amazing people who felt like family. The past month was so much fun. It was filled with so much joy that I didn’t want it to end, but great things will always come to an end,” said Monai Kraidees.

The nine interns were Tala Bin Hussain, Monai Kraidess, Jouri Al-Houti, Hessa Al-Humaidi, Ghalia Al-Qaoud, Esraa Al-Harran, Abdullah Al-Mutawa, Rayan Al-Ruwayeh and Rashed Meshal.
