Kuwaitis urged to cheer athletes at Paris Olympics

PARIS: Minister of State for Youth Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah appealed to Kuwaitis to cheer on their compatriots during the 2024 Summer Olympic Games that kicked off on Friday in the French capital Paris. Leading the Kuwaiti delegation, Al-Huwailah, also Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, made the statement to KUNA. The Kuwait Olympic Committee is partaking in this global event with nine male and female athletes in a number of contests, including swimming, rowing, fencing, sailing and shooting, she pointed out.

Praising Kuwait’s participation in the global tournament, which continues until August 11, Al-Huwailah underlined the resolve of Kuwaiti athletes. Kuwait took part in the Olympic Games 14 times, starting with Mexico in 1968, while 1980 Moscow Olympics saw the participation of 56 athletes; the highest in Kuwait’s history so far. Athens 2004 witnessed Kuwaiti females’ participation for the first time.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Kuwait Olympic Committee Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah affirmed that Kuwait’s participation in the Paris Olympics is the fruit of ongoing support by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah for sports.
