KUWAIT: The Kuwaiti Cabinet convened its weekly meeting at Bayan Palace on Tuesday under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah briefed the meeting on the outcomes of the visit to Kuwait by Iraqi Minister of Interior Lt-Gen Staff Abdul-Amir Al-Shemmeri and his entourage on Sunday.
The visit aimed to strengthen the security relations between Kuwait and Iraq, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sharida Abdullah Al-Maousherji said following the meeting. Sheikh Fahad apprised the contents of the meetings of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Prime Minister with the Iraqi minister, Al-Maousherji told reporters.
The meeting focused on the 2023 report of the Government Performance Follow-up Agency and received a presentation from GPF Chairman Sheikh Ahmad Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on the results of overseeing the implementation of the ministerial decrees over the last year. The ministers also reviewed the implementation of government projects and the results of opinion polls conducted by the GPF regarding government services.
They discussed the observations contained in the report of the State Audit Bureau regarding the implementation of the FY 2022-2023 budget. The Cabinet praised the efforts made by the GPF chairman and leaders to improve the performance of the government agencies. At the end of the meeting, the Cabinet decided to instruct all government bodies to implement the recommendations and observations of the GPF and report to the agency on a quarterly basis.
The Cabinet asked the GPF to prepare a presentation on its activities and the efforts of the government bodies to address any shortcomings in their respective performances on a quarterly basis. Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr Adel Mohammad Al-Adwani briefed the meeting on the preparations of the Ministry of Education for the 2024-2025 academic year.
He elaborated on the progress of the rehabilitation of educational facilities and the efforts to meet the needs of students in the new academic year. The meeting approved the minutes of the supreme committee on verification of Kuwaiti citizenship, which, pursuant to Act 15 (1959) and the subsequent amendments, included cases of withdrawing the citizenship from persons who got it in fraudulent ways. — KUNA
