KUWAIT: Marking the World Badminton Day, which is celebrated annually on July 5, the Indian Badminton Association Kuwait (IBAK) conducted the Summer Smash Tournament at its Salwa Gym (Saad Al-Awzi School).
Kuwait’s weather was hot outside, IBAK Salwa stadium was feeling hotter on the courts where the best players competed against each other and clinched titles. It was an amazing treat for the spectators who were more than 100. The tournament was hosted in two categories as follows: Flight 1 Pro-Advance Men’s Doubles, Flight 2 Higher-Lower Intermediate Doubles.
In a fiercely fought final match for the Pro-Advance Men’s Doubles title, Syed Akbar and Edwin Bobby proved their supremacy over Dhruva Bharadwaj and Mallu Chandhramouli (23-21, 21-12). In the Higher-Lower Intermediate Doubles Category, Siva Kumar and Vinod Kumar had a relatively easy win over Rufus Shibu Samuel and Ayub Alkautsar (21-13, 21-14). The well-oiled machine, that is the IBAK executive committee conducted the tournament in a flawless and professional manner. Winners, runners-up and semi-finalists were presented with medals and cash prizes.
In line with its vision to promote badminton in Kuwait, IBAK regularly provides coaching for beginners, intermediate and advanced players, which is done by reputed overseas coaches. IBAK also conducts competitive tournaments throughout the year. The upcoming tournaments include Kuwait Badminton League 2024, IBAK SLAM 2024 and IBAK Interschool Tournament.
