Today in Kuwait’s history


 KUWAIT: 1964 -- Kuwait Deputy Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a decree to establish the State Audit Bureau (SAB) as an independent financial supervision authority. SAB, affiliated with the National Assembly, or parliament, was to supervise public funds spending.

1965 -- State of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement dividing the neutral zone to organize exploitation of natural resources in this zone. The agreement equally divided the zone, the south to Saudi Arabia and north to Kuwait.

1969 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signed a law to organize issuance of licenses of commercial shops.

1973 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signed a decree to restructure Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) with the aim of promoting scientific research in industry, oil and food sectors. KISR was established in 1967 in line of an oil concession agreement between Kuwait government and the Japanese Arab oil company.

1976 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signed a law ratifying establishment of the Arab Petroleum Services Company. OAPEC member countries signed the establishment agreement in Kuwait on May 4, 1975.

1980 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a decree on joining an agreement that established a standing committee of communications in the Arabian Gulf region.

1984 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed personal affairs law which concerned marriage, family and inheritance. The law took effect on October 1.

2001 -- Kuwait won 11 gold awards, four silver and four bronze as well as excellence in Radio, TV, Songs and Advertisement categories at Cairo Radio and TV Festival.

2003 -- Kuwait Ministry of Health opened health insurance center in Mubarak Al-Kabeer area to facilitate issuance of health care cards.

2012 -- Kuwait national team won West Asia Judo Championship, which was held in Jordan. 2017 -- Dr. Mohammad Al-Mutairi, of Kuwait, selected as chairman of the supreme Council for Arab physicians.

2022 -- The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. — KUNA
