KUWAIT: 1946 -- Kuwait exported the first commercial cargo of crude oil aboard the British tanker, British Fusilier, from Al-Ahmadi port.

1968 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued a law stipulating that the national banknote is the Kuwaiti dinar, comprising 1,000 fils. Currency issuance will be an exclusive right for the State. The law has also stipulated establishment of the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK), tasked with currency issuance, maintaining its stability and overseeing the national banking sector.

 1980 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued a decree-into-law for preserving the national fish wealth, allowing fishing in territorial waters, the regional sea and any other spot, according to a special decree.

1999 -- Kuwait and China signed an agreement for establishing a Kuwaiti general consulate in Hong Kong after it becomes under China’s sovereignty.

2001 -- Headquarters of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation was established in St. James’s region, Britain, comprising offices of all subsidiary companies.

2002 -- The Kuwaiti Cabinet approved establishing the first private university, the Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST), at a capital of KD 10 million (USD 32 million) with a 1,500-student capacity.

2005 -- US Georgetown University granted the Kuwaiti Prime Minister, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AlSabah, an honorary doctorate in law for his great contributions to public services.

2010 -- Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) loaned Djibouti eight million dinars (USD 26 million) to finance construction of the 110-km-long road, Tadjourah-Balho, named after Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad Al-Sabah.

2010 -- Dr. Samira Omar, the director of food resources and marine sciences at Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), was elected the deputy chief executive officer at the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World and the representative of the Arab region in it.

2014 -- The National Assembly (parliament) approved a bill for allocating pensions for public and private personnel .

2015 -- Playwright Mohammad Al-Reshoud died at the age of 65. 2015 -- The National Assembly passed two bills for establishing the Public Sports Authority and the Public Youth Authority.

2020 -- Regular work resumed at public institutions after the government declared an indefinite official holiday as of March 12, 2020, due to spread of the coronavirus (covid-19). 2021 -- The first Kuwait satellite (Qamar Al-Kuwait) was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida (the US). 2022 -- Kuwait Club won the Asian handball tournament, beating the Bahraini team Al-Najmah (23-28), held in Hyderabad, India. — KUNA
