Kuwait participates in Japan Energy Summit

TOKYO: The Kuwaiti delegation, headed by Kuwait Business Council Chairman Feras Al-Salem and representatives from the Ministry of Oil, participated in the Japan Energy Summit and Exhibition in Tokyo on Monday.

At the conferences, the delegation demonstrated Kuwait oil sector’s achievements in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by transforming to a more efficient energy system and implementing the Zero Flaring initiative and soil remediation projects valued at two billion dollars, Al-Salem said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

“As part of Kuwait’s commitments towards the global community, it intends to further reduce its GHG emissions by increasing the contribution of renewable energy sources through greater involvement in its energy mix, as well as implementing more environmentally friendly practices in its oil and gas sector as part of its 2035 vision,” Al-Salem said.

“The achievements of the oil sector are a cornerstone to achieving such GHG emission reduction targets, especially with the flaring rates reaching less than 1 percent and more volumes of associated gas being utilized locally, which are of great economic impact as well,” he noted.

The delegation was also received by Kuwaiti Ambassador to Japan Sami Al-Zamanan. The three-day energy event offers an enhanced platform to unveil the latest global innovations and technologies, bringing more than 4,000 attendees and over 150 companies, according to the organizer.

The technical conference brings together leading engineers and technical experts from across the regional and international energy value chain to showcase cutting-edge innovations that will enable Japan and Asia-Pacific to successfully transition to a low-carbon future. — KUNA
