Al-Rajhi wins gold, qualifies for Paris 2024 Paralympics

KUWAIT: Kuwait National Disabled Athletics team member Faisal Al-Rajhi won the gold medal and first place in the 5,000 meter wheelchair running of the T54 category during the second day of competitions of the 11th World Disabled Athletics championship being held in Japan.

Al-Rajhi registered a time of 10:50 minutes ahead of Japan’s Huo Ghoushi and China’s Lu Ghisnez Ghoshnan, and by this Al-Rajhi qualified for the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Kuwait’s national team is headed by Fahad Al-Mutairi and has coaches Nizar Ramadan and Ahmad Harby in addition to players Faisal Al-Rajhi, Faisal Suroor, Dhari Al-Butti and Malak Hadi Al-Enezi.

Al-Mutairi dedicated the win of Al-Rajhi to HH the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the government and the people of Kuwait. He said “we were honored by the visit of HH the Amir during the month of Ramadan, and the gold medal (Friday) was a response to HH the Amir’s advice to the players, and Al-Rajhi fulfilled his promise and had Kuwait’s flag hoisted high”.

Fahad Al-Mutairi said the championship has 1,000 players from 100 countries, and Kuwait athletes are keen on presenting the best performance and hope to win more medals in the coming days.
