KUWAIT: President of the advisory commission on organization and supervision of the 2024 National Assembly elections, Justice Saleh Al-Hamadi, said the electoral process went on in a sound, smooth, and orderly way. Nothing happened to affect the integrity and soundness of the elections, as the elections were conducted under full judiciary supervision and field follow-up by the members of the commission, as well as effective monitoring by civil society institutions, he told reporters tonight.
"The high voter turnout reflected a wonderful aspect of the national sense of responsibility by the sons of Kuwait since the start of polling,” Justice Al-Hamadi pointed out. He appreciated the efforts of all state agencies that contributed to the success of the electoral process. The vote counting started soon after polling stations for the National Assembly’s 18th legislative term closed at 12:00 Thursday or Friday night. Voters had started casting their ballots at 12:00 on Thursday midday to elect 50 members out of 200 parliamentary hopefuls, males and females, to serve a four-year legislative term.
The National Assembly’s General Secretariat received ballot boxes on Friday after the completion of the election results. The General Secretariat’s Head of the Receiving and Delivering Committee, Omar Al-Ajeel, said in a press statement that the committee received the ballot boxes from members of the judicial authority supervising the election in accordance with the procedures stipulated in articles 27, 28, and 31 of Decree-Law No. 4 of 2024.
He stated that the committee checked all ballot boxes to make sure that the boxes were waxed and sealed by members of the judiciary. He pointed out that the number of boxes received by the General Secretariat is 759, which will be kept in the National Assembly building until the completion of the electoral appeals and later handed over to the Ministry of Interior. — KUNA
