KUWAIT: Work on the Darwaza Al-Abdulrazzaq Square project resumed on Wednesday following a nearly five-year suspension under the leadership of Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Dr Noura Al-Mashaan.
Mashaan said the ministry of public works is keen to pursue the completion of the project under the guidance and approval of the Cabinet to streamline project operations, especially after its prolonged suspension. She highlighted the strategic significance of the Darwaza tunnel’s central location in Kuwait’s capital, underlining the ministry’s urgency to finish working on it as soon as possible.
Nonetheless, she emphasized the ministry’s meticulous approach to ensure the tunnel’s safe opening, prioritizing structural integrity and longevity. The repairs on the project involve both the upper and lower sections of the tunnel to guarantee comprehensive safety of the junction and facilitate transportation on the road. Work on the project had been paused for years due to a dispute related to the tunnel.
According to Mashaan, the ministry of public works prioritizes road repairs, already started by signing two contracts in the Capital governorate along with 18 other initiatives, six of which are allocated to the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation, while the remaining 12 focus on road maintenance across the northern and southern regions of Kuwait.
