KUWAIT: CEO of Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) Ahmed Al-Eidan said that the company has achieved many successes despite the challenges of expanding the number of facilities and drilling towers, most notably its initiatives to reach carbon neutrality as well as reducing the company’s gas burning to less than half a percent, which reinforces its environmental commitment.
In his speech during the awards ceremony of the 25th edition of the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment CEO Award, held under the slogan ‘Building a Safe Environment’, Eidan added that the company has developed a roadmap for transformation in the field of energy. He pointed out that this roadmap depends on several initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and invest in alternative energy in oil and gas production processes, pointing out that the company has started making plans to start producing blue hydrogen to increase the share of clean energy in its operations.
He explained that environmental challenges prompted Kuwait to sign the Paris Climate Agreement to reduce carbon emissions — a goal and commitment that are at the forefront of the tasks of the oil sector. For his part, the chairman of the steering committee of the award and director of The Health, Safety, and Environment Group, Shamlan Al-Roumi, stressed in a similar speech that a safe environment is one of the company’s strategic goals and a priority for achieving sustainable development.
Al-Roumi added that the selection of the award logo for this year was an expression of the company’s application of procedures that reflect its commitments, such as integrating car accidents with a system. The company provides geographic information to capture all incidents in Ahmadi City within a unified interface to ensure efficient analysis and take the necessary corrective actions. He explained that, as part of Kuwait’s environmental reform program, the company has committed to using 10 percent of its energy from renewable sources and reusing 30 percent of its water. — KUNA
