Workshop tackles cancer in children

KUWAIT: A Cancer Aware Nation (CAN) board member said a workshop was held under the theme ‘You are the Apple of Our Eyes’ at the CAN Training Center at the Sabah Health Zone in cooperation with the Director of School Health Department, Dr. Wafaa Al-Kandary, and the head of the awareness program at the Health Ministry, Dr. Ghaidaa Mandani. The workshop was presented by pediatrician Maha Buresli. The subject was about how to deal with cancer patients in schools and how to discover some initial signs of cancer in children. The Department of Children’s Blood Cancer at the National Bank of Kuwait Specialized Children Hospital receives around 100–120 cases per year. The percentage of blood cancer patients is around 40 percent; most of them are under 12 years old, and 52 percent of them are citizens.
