KUWAIT: European Union Ambassador to Kuwait, Anne Koistinen, along with Ambassadors of European Union Member States resident in Kuwait, embarked on a cultural journey at the Tareq Rajab Museum of Islamic arts in Jabriya, Kuwait. During the visit, they were briefed by its Director Dr. Ziad Rajab on the history of the museum and how it contributes to Kuwait’s rich cultural and Islamic heritage.
The Tareq Rajab Museum, renowned for its vast collection of artefacts and exhibits displaying the heritage of the Arab and Islamic civilizations, provided an ideal setting for the Ambassadors of European Union Member States to explore the shared cultural narratives that have shaped the history of both the European Union and Kuwait.
Ambassador Anne Koistinen said: “The Tareq Rajab Museum is a remarkable place, which brings Arab and Islamic civilizations to the public in Kuwait. It was a privilege to explore its exhibits alongside my European colleagues. The collection in the Museum also showcases the enduring cultural ties that bind the European Union and Kuwait, which in turn strengthen people to people contacts. I would like also to stress the importance of cultural diplomacy in fostering connections and building bridges between the people. Our shared history and heritage create a solid foundation for collaboration and understanding.”
On his part, Dr. Ziad Rajab of the Tareq Rajab Museum stated: “It is always a pleasure to welcome the ambassadors of the European Union and to have the opportunity to show them the treasures of such a diverse and varied part of the world, a region that has much shared history and cultural experiences with Europe. From ceramics, textiles and glass, to metalwork and jewelry, there is much common history in technique, design and symbolism between the two regions. Our family is extremely happy to welcome the EU ambassadors.”
The ambassadors toured the museum’s many sections, delving into the rich tapestry of art, history, and traditions that have defined the Arab and Islamic world. The visit to the Tareq Rajab Museum serves as a testament to the European Union’s commitment to promoting cultural exchange and collaboration with Kuwait and preserving shared cultural heritage.
