KU to open dorms in Sabah Al-Salem City

KUWAIT: Kuwait University announced that the Committee for the Receipt of Contracting and Construction Works (Major Projects) at Sabah Al-Salem University City approved the partial primary receipt (No. 4) of the student housing buildings, female students’ housing buildings, and the hospitality club building plots (601,602,225), taking into account the observations of the committee members, in its meeting held on Monday, January 22, 2024, at the headquarters in Sabah Al-Salem University City.

The Chairman of the Committee, Acting Secretary General of the University, Dr Fayez Al-Dhafiri, stated that the committee approved the partial initial receipt of the facilities mentioned within the work package. The package also included the hospitality club, the model school, the supporting buildings, and the academic unit in Sabah Al-Salem University City. After reviewing the technical reports prepared by the Construction and Maintenance Department on the initial receipt of those works, the committee then moved on to a field visit to inspect and ensure the readiness of the projects.

Dr Al-Dhafiri stressed that the completion of the hospitality club buildings translates to the university’s philosophy and its conviction of the importance of work-life balance, in the sense of encouraging a balance between job responsibilities and expanding recreational activities for its employees. “It contributes to achieving a creative work environment. The students’ housing projects confirm the position of Kuwait University as an institution that is committed to the mission of spreading science and transferring knowledge,” he added.

It is worth mentioning that the total area of the student housing buildings (plot 601) is 39,847 square meters and includes (304) residential rooms, (56) living rooms, tennis, basketball, and football courts, a diwaniya, a lecture hall, a multi-purpose hall, a restaurant, a central kitchen, a men’s chapel, a bodybuilding hall, main stores for various materials, (8) laundry rooms, (4) guard rooms, (8) supervisors’ rooms, administrative offices, a main computer room, and reception and waiting areas.

The total area of the female dormitory buildings (plot 602) is 29,757 square meters and includes (222) residential rooms, (42) living rooms, a diwaniya, a theater, a lecture hall, a multi-purpose hall, a restaurant, a central kitchen, a women’s chapel, a bodybuilding hall, main stores for various materials, (6) laundry rooms, (3) guard rooms, (6) supervisors rooms, administrative offices, a main computer room, and reception and waiting areas.

The Hospitality Club Building (Plot 225) has a total area of 15,266 square meters and includes an Olympic swimming pool, another for children, (4) tennis courts, a basketball court, an indoor games hall, a children’s play room, two diwaniyas for men and women, a theater, two lecture halls, a multi-purpose hall, a restaurant and kitchen, a prayer room for men and another for women, two gymnasiums for men and women, steam rooms, sauna and jacuzzi, main stores for various materials, administrative offices, a main computer room, and reception and waiting areas.
