CAIRO: Speaker of the Arab Parliament Adel Al-Asoumi announced on Sunday the awarding of the late Kuwaiti writer and poet Abdulaziz Al-Babtain ‘the Leadership Medal’, which the Parliament awards in the name of the Arab people to distinguished Arab figures who contributed to achieving noble goals and objectives for the Arab nation.
This came in a speech by Al-Asoumi at the opening of the second session of the fourth session of the third legislative term of the Arab Parliament at the headquarters of the League of Arab States. He said that awarding the late writer with ‘the Leadership Medal’ is in recognition of his tireless efforts and the wonderful role he played in the field of culture, poetry and literature at the Arab and international levels.
He added, "The late, God Almighty willing, the Kuwaiti writer and poet Abdulaziz Al-Babtain passed away last December after a generous career filled with many achievements and bright signs in the field of supporting literature and culture in the Arab world through his distinguished contributions that will be immortalized in history.”
Al-Asoumi explained that the late writer and poet received about 17 honorary doctorates from a number of prestigious universities in appreciation of his efforts and enlightening role in the cultural field, humanitarian charitable work and his activity in support of peace. He also received many meritorious medals, shields and awards in recognition of what he did in the field of culture in various Arab and international forums.
He stressed that his efforts were not only limited to enriching the cultural, educational and humanitarian movement in the Arab world but also extended to the global level as he worked to enhance the world with Arab culture and its bright civilized face. — KUNA
