Third round of dressage league starts Sunday

KUWAIT: The third round of the dressage league is set to take place at the Kuwait Hunting and Equestrian Club, with the support of the Kuwait Equestrian Federation, on Sunday. Anticipating a significant turnout, the event will witness the arrival of new horses. The tournament features five levels, ranging from beginners to advanced.

Sheikha Fajr Bader Al-Sabah chairs the dressage committee of KEF, with committee members including Alaa Salem Al-Sultan, Abdullah Al-Awadhi, Naseeba Al-Maousherji, Dana Buresli and Abdullah Al-Amer. Sheikha Fajr highlighted that the league consists of eight rounds, with the third one commencing today.

Plans are underway to invite international referees to conduct training courses for riders and trainers. Sheikha Fajr mentioned that the technical director of the federation has been providing training for riders and coaches since the beginning of the season. The focus is on teaching them how to execute the dressage test accurately, ensuring the maximum points for each required move in the test.

Emphasizing that dressage relies on taming horses, which is fundamental to equestrianism, Sheikha Fajr explained that the sport is dedicated to teaching both the horse and the rider balancing, flexibility, and the ability to transition smoothly between speeds with minimal effort from the rider and complete obedience from the horse. Clear and precise communication with the horse is crucial.

Meanwhile, rider Abdullah Al-Amer encouraged show jumping riders to participate in dressage championships, emphasizing that dressage is the core of equestrianism. He noted the active participation of skilled riders in dressage championships.
