TUNIS: The Arab Ministers of Social Affairs discussed on Sunday the implementation of the second Arab pact for persons with disabilities in 2023–2032 with the participation of the Kuwaiti Minister of Social Affairs, Sheikh Firas Saud Al-Malik Al-Sabah. This came during the high-level forum on the implementation of the second Arab pact for people with disabilities, which was being held under the auspices of Tunisian President Kais in cooperation with the Arab League.
The Arab ministers discussed the exchange of experiences and expertise in order to control the mechanisms to ensure the implementation of the agreements resulting from the decision of the 32nd Arab Summit held in Saudi Arabia last May. The ministers also discussed legislation and policies, social, health, and educational services to assist people with disabilities.
The assistant secretary-general and head of the social affairs sector of the Arab League, Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, confirmed in a speech that the outcomes of this forum and its recommendations will be presented at the Arab Development Summit to be held in Mauritania after being presented to the Council of Ministers of Social Affairs in order to work on their implementation.
Tunisian Minister of Social Affairs Malek El Zahi pledged to work in full coordination with the Arab ministers to move forward with the implementation of the pact for persons with disabilities and harmonize legislation, including helping to implement its provisions. He pointed out that Tunisia is working on drafting new laws, strategies, and policies that reflect the changes in the concept of disability and contribute to the implementation of the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities. - KUNA
