Sheikh Sabah attends, patronizes teacher-honoring ceremony

KUWAIT: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah attended and patronized yesterday a ceremony to honor distinguished teachers and schools, marking World Teacher's Day. His Highness the Amir was warmly welcomed at the ceremony by Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr Hamed Al-Azmi and the ceremony organizers. The ceremony was also attended by National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanem and senior state officials. The ceremony began with the National Anthem followed by Quranic recitation and the speech of His Highness the Amir.

High status
His highness the Amir in his speech praised teachers' high status in the society and expressed appreciation for the role they play in raising generations and developing education and knowledge. His highness the Amir said teachers shoulder a great responsibility for the educational process, hailing their dedication and fruitful message for youth and national development. His Highness the Amir stressed the teacher's critical role especially in light of growing negative phenomena, mainly social media, that negatively affect youth these days, which requires more effort to guide young people to the right direction. His Highness hoped that more attention would be given to education quality and output, which should match the requirements of the labor market. His Highness the Amir expressed confidence in the ability of teachers to overcome all obstacles to develop the educational process and arm children with knowledge and principles of Islamic religion.

Honoring of the nation
Addressing the event, Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Hamed Al-Azmi thanked His Highness the Amir for patronizing and attending the celebration. He believed that the honoring of distinguished teachers during the World Teacher's Day is, in fact, deemed honoring of the nation, given that no country could develop without education. He added that it is no strange that developed countries appreciate and honor teachers, noting that the job of teacher, unlike previously thought, now attracts many Kuwaiti young people thanks to the care and support of the political leadership. He noted that the Ministry of Education, with all its institutions and agencies, is keen to provide teachers with all necessary potential in order to ensure a successful educational process.
Afterwards, Dhawia Al-Osaimi said in a speech on behalf of the awarded teachers, said the event came in appreciation for the teacher's great efforts and successes in the educational domain. She said that hopes are pinned on the teacher to ensure a bright future for generations to come and to allow them to capitalize on their long experience and high capabilities. She added that His Highness the Amir attaches much attention to the teacher out of belief that he is the key to genuine development and progress. - KUNA
