KUWAIT: HH theAmir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent cables of congratulationsyesterday to officers in the Kuwaiti army Lt Col Fahd Al-Yaqoub, Lt Col SalemAl-Mell and Maj Nasser Fawaz Al-Sabah. The three free-fall skydivers managed tohold a 63-sq-meter Kuwaiti flag at an altitude of 13,000 feet on Friday. Therecord-breaking jump took place at Skydive Qatar, a world-class skydivingfacility that integrates advanced training programs with the enjoyment ofskydiving. 

Representativesfrom the Guinness World Records will honor the trio during a special ceremonyin Kuwait today, said Major Al-Sabah. On what drove the team to pursue such anendeavor, he said it was to prove that Kuwaiti youth are always up to thechallenge. He pointed out that it was a personal project that was two years inthe making, while the special material for the flag was manufactured in Spain.He dedicated the achievement to the Kuwaiti leadership and people.

In his cables, HHthe Amir congratulated the officers on their achievement to register the newrecord. HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and HH thePrime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah sent similar cables tothe officers. First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh NasserSabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on Friday also congratulated the three army officers.

The ministry ofdefense said in a statement that Sheikh Nasser expressed pride in the officers'global accomplishment and raising the national flag high, urging them topersevere for serving Kuwait. National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanem alsosent cables of congratulations yesterday to the army officers. He praised theirgreat accomplishment that depicted great capacities among the Kuwaiti youth andtheir achievements at various levels. - KUNA
