KUWAIT: Under the auspices of the Public Authority for Sport (PAS), the 965 Motor Club concluded the fourth round of the Superbike Championship for the 2022-2023 sports season at Kuwait Motor Town. Sheikh Athbi Nayef Al-Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Vice President of 965 Motor Club, told Kuwait Times the club organized its fourth and last round for this season successfully. "We had booming and strong rounds by the contestants, and in each round the number of participants increased," he said.
Sheikh Athbi added the number of participants in the two categories reached approximately 24, with eight competitors in the 600cc category and 16 competitors in the 1000cc category, hoping for more motorcycle racers to participate and companies to support the championship. "The championship was at the local level, but despite this, there was a turnout from Gulf motorcycle professionals to participate. Unfortunately, the Superbike Championship race in Kuwait conflicted with other races in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Hopefully, in the next season, coordination will be made between GCC countries to avoid conflicts and allow competitors to participate in different races in different countries," Sheikh Athbi said.
Sheikh Athbi revealed the next season will start at the end of October. "We aspire to work on a Gulf championship, but we are in the process of regulation. Upon completion and approval of the parties, we will make Kuwaiti contestants participate in races abroad and Gulf nationals participate in Kuwait races, with each round to be held in a different GCC country," she said.
BNK Motion Manager Sheikh Humoud Salman Al-Sabah affirmed BNK's keenness to support local talents and motorcycling fans, expressing his pride in motorcycle racer Alexander Qabazard winning first place in the 1000cc category organized by 965 Motor Club and sponsored by PAS.
Qabazard, who is sponsored by BNK Motion and joined the Aprilia Kuwait team as ambassador for Aprilia, expressed his happiness for winning first place in the championship. "This is the final race of the season. I stood first in the previous three rounds. I am currently leading the entire championship. This year was my first to participate in the Superbike Championship in Kuwait. Previously, I participated in races in Qatar, Bahrain and Norway. I am happy and proud that 965 Motor Club manage to organize this race for us. Finally, we have a competition in our home ground of Kuwait," Qabazard told Kuwait Times.
Qabazard won the Superbike Championship in the 1000cc category, while contestant Sami Haidar came second and Saud Al-Tourah came third. Meanwhile, the winner in the 600cc category was Mohammed Al-Zaidan, followed by Ali Boushehri and Mustafa Husain in third place.
