KUWAIT: Al-Ittihad team beat its Shuhada counterpart 20-18 in the basketball for the mentally handicapped competitions, during the second local handicapped games which started Sunday, at the handicapped club hall in Hawally.
Al-Ittihad will play Al-Salam team which beat Al-Taawon, for the title, while Al- Taawon and Shuhadaa will play for third place. In the epee (fencing) competition Abdallah Al-Haddad was first, followed by Faisal Al-Kandari in second, then Atif Al- Dousari third.
In the junior fencing Fahad Al-Bastaki was first, Suleiman Al-Tamimi second and Sanad Al-Buloushi third. In the Boccia (BCI) game Mohammad Sultan Al-Mutairi took first place, followed by Shareefa Mohareb, then Fahad Al- Babtain was third.
In the Boccia (BC2) Emad Al-Najdaifi was first, followed by Shireen Al-Shaheen, then Hani Hussein third. Secretary General of Kuwait Handicapped Sports Club Abdallah Al-Azmi said the second local tournament is the best preparation for athletes who will participate in upcoming games especially the Boccia, fencing and basketball for the mentally challenged.
Al-Azmi expressed satisfaction at the highly advanced technical level the athletes have shown during the tournament which is among the most important the club organizes during the season.
He thanked the Public Authority for Sports, headed by its Director General Sheikh Ahmad Al-Mansour for providing all what is necessary for the club be it locally or abroad. He also thanked Al-Sheikha Sheikha Al-Abdallah for attending all club activities. The club plans to organize a local athletics tournament in April, then the team will participate in Fazaa tournament in UAE in May.
