KUWAIT: Kuwait Special Olympics organized a family health gathering at Nisf Essa Al-Asfour Library in Qadisiya. This event marks the inaugural activity in the Special Olympics’ health program for the 2023-2024 season. The gathering witnessed a strong turnout of athletes and their parents, with the presence of key figures, including National Director of Kuwait Special Olympics Rihab Buresli, Secretary of Kuwait Tomouh Sport Club Sadeeqa Al-Ansari and Club Director Huda Al-Khaldi.

Two informative lectures were delivered during the event. The first lecture was presented by Dr Aliya Ibrahim, head of the respiratory system diseases unit at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital. Dr Ibrahim discussed the connection between sports and the respiratory health of individuals with disabilities. The second lecture was delivered by consultant physiotherapist Musaed Al-Saeed, who addressed the topic of managing pains resulting from repetitive and incorrect movements, along with strategies for their treatment.

Buresli commended the content and significance of these lectures, emphasizing their role in enhancing the athletes’ quality of life and educating their parents on various health and safety-related subjects. She underscored that this gathering is a vital component of the Special Olympics’ health program, which encompasses healthcare initiatives for athletes and their families. These initiatives include medical examinations across various specialties, physical fitness, proper nutrition and psychiatric well-being.
